چکیده

We present the results of precision timing observations of the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1640+2224. Combining the pulse arrival time measurements made with the Effelsberg 100-m radio telescope and the Arecibo 305-m radio telescope, we have extended the existing timing model of the pulsar to search for a presence of the effect of a general-relativistic Shapiro delay in the data. At the currently attainable precision level, the observed amplitude of the effect constrains the companion mass to m2 = 0.15 +0.08 −0.05 M⊙, which is consistent with the estimates obtained from optical observations of the white dwarf companion and with the mass range predicted by theories of binary evolution. The measured shape of the Shapiro delay curve restricts the range of possible orbital inclinations of the PSR J1640+2224 system to 78 ≤ i ≤ 88. The pulsar offers excellent prospects to significantly tighten these constraints in the near future. Optical Studies of Millisecond Pulsar Companions

In observations of four binary millisecond pulsars with the Palomar 200-inch telescope , we have detected white dwarf companions to PSRs J1640+2224 and J2145?0750 and placed upper limits of m r = 24 and m r = 25 on companions to PSRs J0751+1807 and J2229+2643. The temperature inferred for the companion to PSR J1640+2224 is T = (3700 300) K. The luminosity inferred for a star at a distance of 1....

Interstellar Scintillation Velocities of a Relativistic Binary PSR B1534+12 and Three Other Millisecond Pulsars

We present interstellar scintillation velocity measurements for four millisecond pulsars obtained from long-term monitoring observations with the Arecibo radio telescope at 430 MHz. We also derive explicit expressions that relate the measured scintillation velocity to the effective transverse velocity responsible for the motion of the diffraction pattern for both binary and solitary pulsars. Fo...

Nustar Discovery of a Young, Energetic Pulsar Associated with the Luminous Gamma-ray Source Hess J1640−465

We report the discovery of a 206 ms pulsar associated with the TeV γ-ray source HESS J1640−465 using the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR) X-ray observatory. PSR J1640−4631 lies within the shell-type supernova remnant (SNR) G338.3−0.0, and coincides with an X-ray point source and putative pulsar wind nebula (PWN) previously identified in XMM-Newton and Chandra images. It is spinnin...

Two Millisecond Pulsars Discovered by the PALFA Survey and a Shapiro Delay Measurement

We present two millisecond pulsar discoveries from the PALFA survey of the Galactic plane with the Arecibo telescope. PSR J1955+2527 is an isolated pulsar with a period of 4.87 ms, and PSR J1949+3106 has a period of 13.14 ms and is in a 1.9 day binary system with a massive companion. Their timing solutions, based on 4 years of timing measurements with the Arecibo, Green Bank, Nançay, and Jodrel...

Pulse Arrival-Times from Binary Pulsars with Rotating Black Hole Companions

We present a study of the gravitational time delay of arrival of signals from binary pulsar systems with rotating black hole companions. In particular, we investigate the strength of this effect (Shapiro delay) as a function of the inclination, eccentricity and period of the orbit, as well as the mass and angular momentum of the black hole. This study is based on direct numerical integration of...
